Parking, Cost of Living & Balboa Park:

San Diegans are already facing some of the highest costs of living in the country. Raising parking meter prices and charging people to park at Balboa Park only adds another unfair burden on working families, seniors, students, and small businesses.

Balboa Park has always been a free and open space for the people of San Diego. It is our city’s front yard—a place where families gather, culture thrives, and our community comes together. Charging people to park there feels like being charged to enter a public space their tax dollars already support.

As Mayor, I will take immediate action to protect residents from unfair parking costs and keep Balboa Park accessible to everyone.

My Plan:

I will:
    •    Repeal parking meters at Balboa Park and keep access to the park affordable and welcoming
    •    Roll back recent parking meter increases across the city
    •    Protect neighborhood streets from excessive ticketing and predatory enforcement
    •    Review and reform parking contracts to ensure the city—not private companies—comes first

City Hall should not balance its budget by nickel-and-diming the people who live here. We can maintain our parks and streets through smart budgeting, tourism revenue, and cutting wasteful spending—without making it harder for residents to enjoy their own city.

A Fairer Approach:

Public spaces should be accessible to everyone, not just those who can afford rising fees. Families should not have to pay more just to enjoy a park, visit a museum, or attend a community event.

As Mayor, I will put residents first, protect public access to Balboa Park, and make sure parking policies are fair, transparent, and focused on serving San Diegans—not squeezing them.

Balboa Park belongs to the people. I will keep it that way.
